Cindy's Got a Shirt - with apologies to Aerosmith

[political]
I wanted to write this just after the SOTU, but between work and losing connectivity for three days after the speech, I couldn't get a copy of the original lyrics. Now while I don't agree with everything Cindy Sheehan says or does, I'm saddened by the lack of outrage shown by the media, and the public, over the censorship of the shirts worn by both Cindy and the wife of Republican Representative Bill Young. And while the Capitol Police did come out and say "oops," I appreciate the irony in law enforcement not knowing the law, in the very spot where our laws are made. Thus, I give you the silly, sad and serious, all in one tune, hummed to Janie's Got a Gun:

Well Cindy got a shirt
Cindy got a shirt
Bush, he done hit the dirt
butt cheeks gave a little squirt

what did ole Georgie do
what did he put us through
they say when Cindy was arrested
they found him lying through his teeth

there were smiles and a clappin'
meanwhile Cindy's got a shirt
counting soldiers given their own wreaths

well Cindy got a shirt
Cindy got a shirt
with truth we merely flirt
  hah
only thought and reason have been hurt

  yeah
can't tell them he's untrue
an' what did our 'leader' do?
oh they gave me 'bad intell' he did whine
I really can't be held to blame
  ah ah yeah ah ah

we mourn the spell the nation's under
the bombin' and the blunder
the news quotes only G.O.P. frame

wasted youth
very few seek the truth
yeah yeah yeah yeah-yeah

wasted youth
very few seek the truth
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah-ye-yeah

wasted youth
wasted youth
so many many many many wasted youth
  whoo

Well Cindy got a shirt
Cindy's got a shirt
with truth we merely flirt
only thought and reason have been hurt

what did ole Dubya do
well Cindy's shirt told it true
hauled away by Secret Service
First Amendment could not be found
aah haha ah haha ah haha ah

look at all the damage he has wreaked!
The man can't even speak!
yet thousands are buried in the ground!

wasted youth
very few seek the truth
burials just be-guh uhn

wasted youth
very few seek the truth
burials just be-guh uhn

wasted youth
wasted youth
so many many many many wasted youth

Cindy's got a shirt
well Cindy got a shirt
well Cindy's got a shirt
thought and reason have been hurt

  burials
Cindy's got a shirt
  burials
with truth we merely flirt
only thought and reason have been hurt
  we stopped askin' where's Bin-Laden
becaue Cindy got a shirt
  fundies they appease
ah Cindy got a shirt
'pon our rights Repubs have trodden
with truth we can merely flirt
  our children brave IEDs

only thought and reason have been hurt
  burials
ah Cindy got a shirt
  burials
ah Cindy got a shirt
  burials
with truth we merely flirt
  burials
only thought and reason have been hurt
  we stopped askin' where's Bin-Laden
because-a Cindy's got a shirt
  fundies they appease

Band of Brothers on the Mall

[political]
As I was riding the Metro back to West Falls Church, I was kicking myself for not being more prepared. I don't have the tools to blog from the mall, but I realized I could have been on the phone with someone who could relay questions from this site to me to ask the candidates and post their responses as a back-handed live-blog. That, together with the fact the my camera took more than 100 blank shots (no, I don't have a lens cover to remove ;-)), told me I was ill prepared for today's event. Learning curve, argh... That said, I did manage to get most of the audio on my mp3 player (read: not a directional mic) - and even that was somewhat poor as I was in the back with the 'Real Media.' Sadly, when I spoke with the gentleman who was handing out press kits and told him I was putting this up on dailykos, he didn't seem to recognize the name.

Why was I there? I was just a Seabee Desert Storm vet there to hear what the candidates had to offer. So, in their own words, here's what I manage to salvage of this morning's event:

It started with the standard thank yous and introductions from the event organizers. [My apologies to them for not having my player up and ready to go to catch their names.] The first speaker was Max Cleland, followed by each of the candidates. To hear what each said, right click on their names and open the mp3 files in the player of your choice. Because the idea is to present each speech, the audio was compressed to save bandwidth and download time. Again, sorry I wasn't prepared to address individual candidates with specific questions.
