My fear is not your fear

[political] I thought it was interesting that Gallup polled on fear
(Asked of Kerry voters) If George W. Bush is re-elected in November, would you be -- very upset, somewhat upset, not too upset, or not at all upset?

(Asked of Bush voters) If John Kerry is elected president in November, would you be -- very upset, somewhat upset, not too upset, or not at all upset?

Very upset
Somewhat
upset
Not too
upset
Not at all
upset
Kerry voters
57%
25
8
8
Bush voters
50%
33
10
7

The total percentage of "very" and "somewhat" upset voters is about the same for each candidate -- 82% of Kerry voters would be upset if Bush is elected, and 83% of Bush voters would be upset if Kerry is elected. Still, the higher number of "very" upset Kerry voters indicates a slightly higher intensity than that of Bush voters.

Ultimately, however, it is not clear how predictive either measure is of voter turnout.
I would be interested in the "why" these people are scared. I get the feeling that the Bush supporters are afraid the Left will let the terrorists bomb their children while the Left is afraid to let Bush trample more rights and issues if given 4 more years.

380 tons equals rougly 3400 skyscrapers

[political] Today the bomb is dropped on the Bush campaign. Actually, it's just the material to make the bombs - 380 tons worth of RDX and HMX high explosive material to be exact. I read one calculation that this was enough to take down 3400 skyscrapers - not to reassuring to those who lost loved oned and are scared to go outside after the fall of the World Trade Center towers. One pound of the stuff was used to take down Flight 103 in Lockerbie, Scotland. My comment: "Resolute George's" Al Qaqaa High Explosive Supermarket - Open for Business. Free - take all you want. Let's see how they spin this.

feedster coming online and looking much better

[tools] A few weeks ago I talked about being unable to access MyFeedster without getting a database error. It's gone! As I was never able to access the database, I don't know if there have been changes, but it works and it looks well laid out. There appears to be some work still in progress, but that's to be expected. Good job people.

John Lynch wants to raise my taxes

[political bad-vertising] Holy Crap! I just heard the woman on the television say that John Lynch wants to raise my property taxes by 350 Million Dollars! That's just insane. There is no way I am going to pay 15,000 times more for my property than it is worth. I'll just have to Rush Right Out and vote for the other candidate.

I have no idea whether Lynch is any good, I just wanted to bash the political rhetoric.

Gentlemen, set your TiVos

[jon stewart] So, if you someone were to ask you to watch CBS for news, would you? Even if you were told CBS is going to air an interview with Jon Stewart this Sunday? Check the story for more info.

The most enjoyable draft around

[political] ...Unless you are really into beer that is (I'm allergic.) Take a couple of minutes and Enjoy the Draft. A humorous look at just one of the issues being buried underneath the War on Terror this election cycle.

I don't vote on sentimentality

[political] After seeing the heartstring pulling Ashley ad, I still don't believe that one hug makes a person Presidential.

I think Bush really said to her "I'm sorry I still haven't caught the guy responsible for killing your mother. I was too busy invading Iraq. The cool thing about this campaigning tour is I get to hug lots of people who lost loved ones because of me."

This is all I see when I think about what George W. Bush is all about. Yeah, I know the photoshop job is cheesy.

How to miss out on free viewers

[shameless plug] Or just shamefull this time. I have missed the boat on bOING bOING. They started posting sites that had shirts and stickers of Jon and Bush gear and I sent the message asking for my Jon and Bush stuff to be included to be included, but too late. I could just kick myself. HARD. Even if I didn't make a sale, it would have been wonderful just to be seen.

mccain introducing paths of glory on tcm

[political] Senator John McCain is on Tuner Classic Movies introducing the movie Paths of Glory as part of TCM's series of political figures sharing their favorite political movies. He discusses the importance of free speech during wartime and the resposibility of the Commander in Chief regarding sending troops into battle. It sounds to me like a backhanded condemnation of Iraq if you ask me.

3 more designs after the third debate

[shameless plug] The presidential quote un-quote debates provide so much fodder that it would be foolish not to create new designs, even this close to the election. The 3 new ones are 'Integrity, Integrity, Integrity… or you can settle for Bush', 'Trade in your old Job and Degree for Community College! - I am George W. Bush and this is my Only Message', and 'Which country are we going to "Install Freedom and Liberty" in next, George?' I have one more to do, which will read something like 'Who bears responsibility, President Bush? "Gosh, I sure hope it's not the Administration."' Now if CafeDepressed would just finish their upgrade...

listen to the Veterans at Operation Truth

[political] Not sure who to believe in the Iraq war rhetoric? Listen to the Vets who were actually over there. Operation Truth tracks the stories as well as legislation and other issues affecting vets today. You can also read their blog or get the feed. As a Desert Storm / Shield Vet, I'll be tracking this one closely.

Still no mainstream coverage of indymendia seizure

[homeland insecurity] Yesterday, October 7th, the FBI seized server disks containing the files for indymedia, an alternative, not-for-profit news reporting entity. Now, more than a day later, there is no mention in the mainstream media of the seizure, or the First Amendment issues associated with the seizure. Daily Kos picked up the story a few hours ago, but Yahoo has only run the piece in Australia and NZ, and CNN, of course, has nothing on the story. AP has posted the piece that has been picked up by some of the smaller news entities, but it is buried by the Tallahassee Democrat in the Industries section. Imagine the uproar if the disks were seized for NBC or ABC News. (CBS wouldn't matter because it's all made up anyway...) Oh, and the firm who handed the disks over like good patriots? Rackspace. Just watch how fast the Slashdotters relocate their accounts to other hosts.

more pier 57 investigating

[legal] Twenty five minutes ago, it looks like either two or three computers affiliated with HRPT took another look at the Pier 57 designs. Comparing notes while talking to each other on the phone would be my guess...

how long before the lawyers come a knockin'

[legal] About 45 minutes ago, someone at Hudson River Park Trust took an interest in my Pier 57 designs. Actually, they started a few hours before that, but those hits were only clicking off hits on the main page, but someone got interested enough to poke around and look at the rest of the designs later during business hours. The funny part is, I haven't sold one single item, so if CafePress pulls the images, it will be no big deal. I'll just turn the whole episode into an Anner Bad. I'm just interested in how long it will take before the lawyers come a knockin'.

people like my designs

[hoorayforme] I'm jumping up and down because, not only did I sell a few stoned slackers items, I finally got a repeat customer! While I'm only making a small amount of money on each item, there has been a tremendous amount of satisfaction on my part knowing that I am not the only one who feels like I do, and is willing to pay to say it (and wear it) as well. Woooooo!

now I've added anner bads to weber blue

[humor] While banner ads suck, I went ahead and threw Anner Bads on weber blue. Right now the tagline is 'Anner Bads - more offensive than real ads', but I'm thinking of changing it to 'not making a dime off the corporate slime.' While it is illegal to make money off a parody, I thought it would be funny to use banner advertising for this purpose. The only ones who benefit are the customers coming through the store getting a free chuckle. There is a collection of better ads on Valley of the Geeks.
