inane NBC commentary... no fun at all

About 48 minutes into the 2004 Olympic opening ceremonies, the witty NBC script writers did the US proud. Instead of commenting on the care and craftsmanship necessary to create the outfits worn by those in the procession, they came up with this for the commentary on the costumes went as follows:

Katie Couric: "...Including the familar pleated skirts. Today the official uniform of the Presidential Guard. Each skirt has 400 pleats, set to represent every year of Greek suppression before the Greeks gained independence in 1832. Pressing them, Bob, no fun at all..."
Bob Costas: "I guess not. Think of the dry cleaning tab."
Think of the salaries these dolts make.

One post on virtual tourist says "...the Evzones have professional steam irons in the barracks and have to iron them themselves. The uniforms are made by special craftsman in workshops within the barracks and take 80 days to make."
